Finally the weather is getting to be the way it should. warm. inviting. sunny. playful. For those of you lucky southerners who are amidst the "glow of the sun" day in and out, wearing only a cotton shirt, flip flops and capris.... let me remind you how DAMN cold it can be up here in the freezing North. I enjoy the winter though, because it makes me TRULY appreciate the warm spring. I love to watch the seasons change--especially winter to spring. The grass grows, the trees get their leaves back, the birds sing & we get to play outside.
I bought a double stroller/bike carrier from Costco a few months back and we have been using it everyday. It is wonderful; both Tagg & Berke love it. & because they love it, they actually sit and are nice to each other while we venture out. We only live a block from the bike trails-they go thru the city of GP, so we hit the trails and count the foot bridges, the train bridges, the birds, planes, people out walking their dogs. We go for a long walk, always ending at the park for playtime. It is so fun for them, me????-- pushing, pulling and dragging a double stroller up & down the hills, around the bend, with Tagg yelling out commands "GO FASTER MOMMY" (which I do), "SLOWER MOMMY" (thankfully). He thinks it is great fun to control the speed of his ride. As long as I have my MP3 in one ear to give me a beat, it is actually great motivation to run.
We get to the park & Tagg is gone. The first couple days he was a bit timid (as was I) but now he knows where to go, how to do it & he is gone. Today was the 1st time I just let him go while I sat near Berkeley who was still sleeping in the stroller. WOW. Can he really be growing up so much. He is HUGE. Those Tall Tollestrup genes definitely are his--as are the constant leg-aches from growing so much.
His favorite lines are "You're Crazy Mommy!"; everything is always "the biggest in the whole-wide world" eg. "mommy draw daddy-the biggest daddy in the whole-wide world"; "I go on the slide-the biggest slide in the whole-wide world"; he also has this facsination with birthdays. Where from???? We've never really been to a party & only celebrated his 1st, which I doubt he remembers. But everyday, 8-10Xs he'll say "can we have a birthday cake? with goodie bags, and party hats, and balloons-the biggest balloons in the whole-wide world?" I started letting him look at my Australian Womens Mag: Birthday Cakes http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=46432 (thanx mom); so everyday it is a new type of cake "the lady bug" "the spider" "the rocket" "the pirate ship".... He is really getting a personality and picking up on things. He loves Knock-Knock jokes and sometimes they actually make sense. Like I said, really getting HUGE.
& Berkes. That girl wants to GOOOOOOOO! We get to the park & she is practically leaping out of my arms to the ground. Can't walk alone, but holding my fingers she leads me to the slide, toy area, under here, over there. She giggles nearly everytime Tagg comes down the slide. She also has this attraction to sand---I have to watch her closely because she is constantly putting her mouth to the ground or on the toys--sucking on them. The other day I looked at her & her mouth was covered. {reminds me of my nephew Tanner at the beach....that boy would dish into the sand with a shovel and throw it in his mouth before anyone could stop him--maybe this is genetic??;) dirt-eating disorder???) 2 of my most favorite Berkeley things at the moment are 1: will PRETEND to hand you her food & when you say "thank you" she quickly shoves it in her mouth. 2: started to give kisses on demand-- open mouth and very wet, but still I'll ask for a kiss & here she comes. Love it!!
As I babble about the kids, I know this is mainly all for me, my sort of journal; but I mustn't forget the low on Dad. Scott has been working like a dog. Gone all sorts of crazy hours. As things warm up, trucking slows down. All the rigs are in muddy swap lands--where only a couple sets of chains and a big Cat can get you in & out. Because of that many nights they work when it is colder, so he has been leaving at 1am, working all night, coming back doing office/truck stuff, sleeps 2-3 hrs & is gone again. Hopefully things will slow down soon so we can see him. It would be frustrating if he was running truck for someone else, but as this is our business & in 2 1/2years he has grown from 1 to 7 trucks running (on good days--when there are drivers & no breakdowns) we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. He has some great employees who make sure things run smooth---& one day (hopefully soon) he'll be able to be at home with us & just fill in as a driver-- sign a few cheques, simple stuff -- while supporting our family. Maybe even let that snowmobile see some snow.....
This is long. Again I sit at my computer, looking at scrap stuff, thinking about scrap stuff... but doing nothing. Partly is because my scrap room is a junk room "fire hazard" as Scott puts it-- I am organizing and repacking kids clothes, my junk..... I need a few continuous hours to just buckle down. Next week, then I can get scrapping a lot more. I have a few notebooks full of ideas, journalling, cards, books I want to make.....but alas my procrastination captures my good intentions again. Good thing it is Spring--time to get out of my winter blahs & get motivated to get stuff down. Wish me luck---
